Cloud Migration
Migrate your applications and data to the Cloud to achieve your business ambitions faster
Preparing for Migration
Migrating all or part of your IT Services into the Cloud can be complex, but it doesn’t have to be complicated.
Below are some things to help you think about what, how and who before you start.
A framework that helps organisations develop and execute efficient and effective plans for their Cloud adoption journey.
Working through its Six Perspectives helps you build a comprehensive approach to Cloud, ultimately enabling you to realise measurable business benefits from Cloud adoption faster and with less risk.

6Rs - Migration Strategies
6 Migration Strategies:
● Rehost
● Replatform
● Repurchase
● Refactor
● Retain
● Retire
Transformation to Cloud is a journey, completed in a series of steps. For each step, you need to select the right strategy.
You can use a combination of complex steps and simple steps, big steps and little steps, quick steps and paced steps, but it’s also most important to get the steps in the right (optimal) order.

Cloud Centre of Excellence
CCoE Approach
● Cross-functional
● Right Character
● Right Charter
● Change Leaders
A cross-functional team of people responsible for developing and managing the Cloud strategy, governance, and best practices that the rest of the organisation can leverage to transform the business.
The CCoE leads the organisation as a whole in Cloud adoption, migration, and operations.

Systematically working through the existing applications to uncover the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. This allows you to create a blueprint for the Foundation Services, the Shared Services, and the to-be operational state of the applications.

To-be Model
Using the Six Perspectives of the Cloud Adoption Framework you should have clear business objectives that migration needs to support, and financial goals it needs to deliver.
Your planned migration strategies for each application and to-be operational model need to support these.
You need a Cloud Centre of Excellence with the capabilities and experience to deliver the migration

Detailed Design
The detailed design needs to address:
-
Foundation Services within the Cloud Environment with regard to Identity and Access Management, Networking, Automation and Security.
-
Shared Services such as databases and storage.
-
Each application in turn in terms of the migration approach and the to-be operating model.
Planning
Create a Plan and Assemble Resources
There will be a clear optimal path for migration, with the establishment of the environment, configuration of Foundation Services and the creation of the Shared Services before a single application is migrated.
This path needs to be mapped out in full and resourced with appropriately skilled and experienced individuals to minimise risk.

Execution
Finally the rubber hits the road, and the real work starts: Building Foundation services, Shared services and migrating applications one by one, in turn transitioning them to a future operational model.

Foundation Services include:

Multi-account structure and maintenance.
-
Networking Components within the Cloud and from the Public Cloud to on-premise networks or Private Cloud.
-
Automation components: Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Amazon Machine Instance (AMI) pipelines.
-
Security capabilities and components.
